Join us for a fascinating 70-minute talk with the CTO of Mission Systems at Inzpire, as they explore the high-stakes, challenging, and rewarding world of developing software for military aircrew.
This talk will give you a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to build technology that pilots and crews depend on for their safety and success.
The session will cover:
The GECO Background: Learn about the origins of Inzpire's GECO (Graphical Electronic Cockpit Organiser) system, a tablet-based mission and situational awareness tool used by military forces worldwide.
Unique Technical Challenges: Discover the extreme demands of building software for the cockpit, from rigorous safety standards and data integrity to complex hardware integration and user-interface design for high-stress environments.
Team Growth Challenges: Go beyond the code to explore the human element—the difficulties of scaling a highly specialized team, maintaining a strong culture, and managing specialist knowledge.
When Software Goes Wrong: Using real-world case studies, the talk will examine the serious consequences of failure in aviation software and the critical lessons learned.
This is a must-attend event for software engineers, aviation enthusiasts, product managers, and anyone interested in the development of mission-critical systems. This video provides a brief overview of the Inzpire GECO Mission System that will be discussed in the talk.
Speaker:
Jake was a Navigator of the Royal Australian Air Force, flying primarily on the F-111 aircraft. His experience ranges from completing the RAF Aerosystems Course (enabling him to work as an aircrew liaison between the Australian Defence Material Organisation and the RAAF) through to training new F-111 students as an Instructor Navigator. Jake has a unique combination of software and technical skills combined with aviation and military background, enabling him to design world beating solutions within the Mission Systems field.
Jake is CTO for Inzpire, a Lincoln based company who develops mission critical software for the Ministry of Defence. They scooped two accolades at the recent Lincolnshire Digital & Tech Awards, feature in the Sunday Times Top 100 small businesses to work for and hold a Queens Award for Enterprise in Innovation.
Outside of work, Jake can be found either relaxing with a good glass of wine and a cheese platter, experimenting with computer code, or jetting off to far away travel destinations. He loves living in England but constantly moans about the weather and misses owning a barbeque.
